G2 and Behringer BCR |
 |
|
Hi folks,
I've been considering getting an additional G2 engine hooked up to a Behringer BCR2000 as a standalone keyboardless unit (I don't think a G2 rack with the UI will ever happen).
I know some of you use the Behringer, and I have a question.
When assigning the buttons and dials to module parameters (via CC#s), does the Behringer "update itself" to their existing values, or does it impose its own set of values onto them?
Asked differently: When I have a G2 patch and a corresponding BCR assignment setup, do the values on the BCR change accordingly when I change to a different patch variation on the G2?
thanks,
tim |

Hi Tim,
You'll have to tell the G2 to send the CCs. That's the only way the BCR would know. Although some sort of "fetch CC" function would be cool. But I don't think that is how midi works.
Apart from that - I like my BCR!
Cheers,

I just bought a BCR but didnt had the time to test it yet. From what i ve read in the manual it should work with the new VCR software that allows to set a delay on the midiinput and therefor allows to recieve controler information back without running into a controler feedback loop...
I will find out soon |

In version 1.32 (possibly before this, but after 1.24) the G2 can respond to a sysex string to "Request CC Snapshot". You can do this from the editor- but you can also program a button on the BCR to send this sysex request, to get the latest CC settings.
Unfortunately, Behringer in their limited scope of design did not give the BCR the capabilties to program sysex strigns, which would be extremely useful. I used to have a Peavey PC1600, which allowed you to program almos anything that could be sent via midi. If the BCR had these capabilites coupled with the rotary encoders, it would be much more usefull.
You'll have to put a Button in learn mode, send the Sysex command for the CC Dump Request from another device or program on your computer. The Button can then send it to the G2.
You still have to setup each controller manually on the BCR though. THe Sysex request just gets the "current CC values" from the G2.
This is in the G2 1.3x manual, which you can download from the Clavia site. |

I've seen this but not really reflected upon it. Cool!
