Mac testers needed - chat room upgraded. |
 |
|
The chat room software has been upgraded. It shouldn't be any different for windows users, but there is hope that it will have fixed some problmes for the Mac OSX users. I just upgraded to 10.3.9 and the applet seems to work.
Please, I would appreciate it if some other OSX users would give it a try. Just click on the "Chat room" menu at the top-right of any forum page.
Oh, if you type hello or ping it will make a sound for people who have the applet running. It'll wake them up... _________________ --Howard

Yes, that is just a little add on feature that checks the chat room and shows who is chatting. That has been broken for months. I do need to fix it, but it's not the problem I'm more concerned with. _________________ --Howard

seems like your java virtual machine doesn't have permissions to get information from DNS queries. I don't know OSx so much but if there are some kind of firewall you have to allow tcp connections from external IPs, source port 53 to your system. If there are application based rules, allow your java virtual machine to get information from outside.
Otherwise, I think that every IRC client can do a connection to irc.blitzed.org, port 6667, channel #electro. Try with this, if the problem stills with java client. In this way you can check if this issue is related to java client or with whole IRC protocol permissions on your machine.
see ya,

Looks like a Java-configuration issue, Java is very security-conscious...
No clue where to configure these rights, most of the time the Java client simply asks the user whether it is allowed to perform a certain action.
Maybe the NSA can help out?

I found on my OSX box that the chat works with Safari, but not FireFox or IE6. I've been it touch with the developers. They want me to open the java console and send them the error messages there. Does anyone know how to open up the java console on OSX? _________________ --Howard

Open Applications/Utilities/Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings
Choose output to java console.
restart the browser and enter the chat room. The java console will start up.. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Yes, it works fine with Safari. The chat room works with no error message. Unfortunately, not with FireFox or IE. _________________ --Howard
