I think we all agree on the core here, that the Iranian president's statements were at the least over the top. But I think our discussion illustrated why this kind of rhetorical excess is not very constructive.
When making statements, one must be very careful in what they say or else the results will be unexpected, with somebody feeling dissed or attacked. When this happens, one rarely makes intended point or communicates effectively.
I think the Iranian president is seeing this and lately he has slightly reduced his invective. He now doesn't call for Israel to be wiped off the face of the Earth, but rather relocated to Alaska or some such place. This is a refreshing change of pace. In that spirit, I call for Den Haag to be relocated to Eastern Pennslyvania, then, without moving, I could live in a relatively more free country and enjoy the "coffee shops". I'd also be closer to some good friends. _________________ --Howard

That. Was. Funny.
Now pray we have no Alsaskan members that take offense with the "or some such place" phrasing. I'm quite sure there is no place like Alaska.
Personally I'd move; Israel's trouble tends to revolve around the building of wals while last time I heard Alsaka had a issue it involved the building of a bridge. I like bridge building much better then wall building. (that was intended in a funny way! realy, just funny! no politics! realy!) _________________ Kassen |

Seems to me the mix of word and deed advanced by Iran in the context of its neighbors and their situations pushes the Middle East depressingly close to a catastrophic war. It has become like walking on eggshells. _________________ The question is not whether they can talk or reason, but whether they can suffer. -- Jeremy Bentham |
