NM and Ableton Live - knob/midi question

I would like to use the knobs on my NM keyboard to control parameters in Abelton Live. I can manage to use the keys of the NM to control functions, but the knobs do not seem to be communicating with Ableton. I believe the issue is on the NM side. any ideas???

pg. 47 in the NM manual mentions assigning knobs to a parameter in a "dummy" module within a patch, perhaps using the constant module, mentioned on page 40. but I don't really understand what that means.

Right click on any virtual knob and assign a physical knob to it from the popup menu. Right click again to also associate a MIDI CC with that virtual knob, again through the popup menu.

From then on turning the physical knob should send the MIDI CC to the MIDI output. Also sending that CC to the MIDI input should move the virtual knob.

Usualy the "any virtual knob" is chosen to be on a DSP cheap module, like the constant module.
