Looks very nice Fonik. A little cramped (vertically) but very nice. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

cramped in all directions, that's the problem of eurorack following the 0.8inch rule like dieter doepfer, i guess. since i put in the pots in columns divided by sockets in columns it should be still operational without problems... (i will add some graphic lines to distinguish the functional units though it will raise the price)

Here are the Jameco part numbers for the PCB trimmers. This is a personal choice but I like these trimmers for my projects. These will fit neatly on the SN Voice PCB.
100 ohm ----- 254297
10K ---------- 182836
50K ---------- 254027
1M ----------- 182852
Also:
CD4046 ----- 13013

Did you intentionally remove the "KBD" jack and I believe there is one less switch control (PWM??) ..... ?
Nice layout! My fingers are skinny so I would have no problem using it.

Re. PWM control: Scott told me that you can stick a pot in to control PWM, so that's why I added it to the second panel layout that I posted. _________________ Sneak-Thief - raw electrofunk |

OK fellas !
Here is the final pricing for the PCB and Connector Kit (3 Headers, 3 Housings, 40 Pins, plus instructions):
Note: Connectors are high quality MOLEX "KK" style connectors.
(1) SN Voice Printed Circuit Card ____ $18.00
(1) Connector Kit _________________ $ 9.50
Orders Include:
Parts Placement Diagram
Panel Wiring Diagram
Parts List
Schematic Diagram
Instructions/Tips
It looks like my shipping cost will be between $4.00 to $9.00 depending on where in the world I will be shipping. Canada being the cheapest and Australia being the most from here in New York, USA. These numbers are based on a 12 OZ package, Air Letter US Postal service.
Thanks,

yes, intentionally left them out - i think i have to take a 2nd look on the schematic: i thought i left off the volume control for the pulse output? maybe that's nonsense... |

Hey guys-- Will the SN Voice work on 12v? (Scott, I didn't see this addressed on your site.) If possible, I'd like to add it to my 12v Ray Wilson modular setup. Thanks! |

Hi Bill I,
Dang - wish I still had the SN-Voice on breadboard, I'd try it. My guess would be that it will probably work, but that's just a guess. Sneakthief - have you tried this with yours?
Cheers,

Man I been missing this thread. I'd like to know if it runs on 12V as I need to get a PSU for my beginnings of a modular and I was leaning towards 12V. Great work!! I'd be interested in a board also. I'll be looking forward to it. _________________ "your stripes are killer bro" |

well, the dsc2000 is happily powered from +/-12v:
http://blacet.com/DSCmanualBasic.pdf
i'll confirm this with my sn-voice, seeing as i may be the only one around who's got a working one (i dunno is Tim aka Servo ever got his going).
cheers,

I suppose it's not the right thing to say around here, but I was really disappointed with my DSC2000. I suppose I was expecting 'Space Invaders'- but no, but we've been over this ground before.
I sold the Blacet a few years back and bought the Wogglebug instead. I've never looked back.
I think the schematics are knocking around for the DSC somewhere still. I'll try and dig them out sometime soon _________________ ACHTUNG!

hmm, i don't seem to have a +/-12V psu lying around here, so i can't confirm or deny just yet
in the meantime, i don't see any component that would need more than 12V - for example, ray wilson's vco uses lf444's alongside a tempco and it uses +/-12V.
so theoretically, yes.

Insofar as the dsc2000 can't be controlled with 1v/oct tuning, I would tend to agree. For me, the SN-Voice topology turns the 76477 into something of actual worth. _________________ Sneak-Thief - raw electrofunk |

I get a lot of use out of DSC2000, though really not for its intended purpose (weird noise generation, etc.), but more for atonal stuff (where the linear control excels in an otherwise V/Oct patch). Mainly because it's there, more or less. The noise it's supposed to manufacture is already built into almost any modular waiting to be patched - it doesn't need a module specifically for that kind of stuff (in regard to the DSC2000). Modulate a PWM VCO in varying degrees with digital noise, and you're pretty much there, though the PWM of the SN76477 itself is really nice.
Patching up a Wogglebug, of course, would take a more specialized Buchloid/Sergenheimer arrangement I'm sure, vis-a-vis smooth random voltages such as found on the SOU. Even then, the kick-in-the-ass thwips derived from the controlling the 4046 in that manner would take some doing to patch up, and there's some really nice interplay in the design that would be a bi...er....challenge to emulate. It's better to have the Wogglebug and move on with your life .
Cheerios,
Scott |

I think it was that atonal sound that first attracted me to your site Scott. The interest in the electronics came afterwards The Woggle excels in chaotic random voltage- it is a mean machine to tame. it's also a great sound source too. Maybe I don't think I gave the DSC enough time, but I was really glad I made the switch. However, in this Henry design, it can be modified for both linear and log control?
Come on Scott, get Mr Henry's a**e into gear and get him to develop the Supercontroller Mk2 _________________ ACHTUNG!

Oh, I imagine you gave it plenty of chance. I recall I was a bit underwhelmed by it in terms of what my expectations for it were. I think if someone were making a little stand-alone thing for the occasional sound effect, it would be fine. But, by the time I got around to the DSC2000, it didn't do much more than I already was able to do with various modules and.....breadboards. But, it's still found a happy home in the KS-01, and it'll stay.
Quote: | However, in this Henry design, it can be modified for both linear and log control? |
It does have a linear modulation input.
Quote: | Come on Scott, get Mr Henry's a**e into gear and get him to develop the Supercontroller Mk2 |
Oh, he did. In 2004, to be exact. He's just never released it. In fact, the last design he sent me before returning to work this fall was for an entire Thomas Henry synthesizer, and the new version of the SuperController was an integral part of it. The new SuperController doesn't use the SN76477, BTW.
Cheers,
Scott |

Sometime soon I've really got to look at these designs in detail - not done so before because the SN76477 has been tricky to get hold of cheaply over here, but I've just placed an order for 30 - including shipping it works out as $6 or so per chip = amazing price! (Ebay - SVDistribution selling individual SN76477s - I asked if they'd do a bulk discount and wowow they gave a great price!) _________________ http://www.bugbrand.co.uk

I checked out SVDistribution on eBay and their international shipping prices are a big freakin' joke. I hope you got a good shipping deal from them.

When I make my last SN-Voice, I'll probably just order from arcadechips.com - they're friendly, have super-cheap shipping and even post on this forum _________________ Sneak-Thief - raw electrofunk |

Hehe yeah I know its a lot! Well, I asked for 15 to start with and he quoted me $5 a piece (half the standard rate) so I thought that what with the $35 dollar flat-rate shipping I may as well get a bunch that'll last me forever.. I could certainly pass a few on to people locally (UK, Euro) _________________ http://www.bugbrand.co.uk
