BTW did you try the VCmodulator for control voltages as well? |
Thanks!
I will try out some control voltages with it and I'll let you know how it works out. _________________ -- Kevin

Hi Fonik,
one question on the power supply : 12V possible without changes in any values? Schematics says "15V".
Best regards

A couple photos. Thanks so much for sharing this module!
Edit - not sure why they're being rotated when I attach them.

Mmh, can´t find the 2N3908 transistor at any standard supplier I usually order from. Maybe s.o. could give me a tipp here? I´m located in Germany. Thx.a lot. _________________ --

Is this a substitute to the 08 or have I missed s.th.?

Doooh! Thx for opening my eyes. It HAS to be the 2N3906. _________________ --

i found that one could improve the range of potentiometer P4 by connecting the CCW (pin1) via a 10k to GND.
if you use the module for audio in the first place, you could even solder a 100k resistor across CW and wiper (pins 3 & 2) of the potentiometers (P3 & P4).

Thanks. I'll add these little changes on the stripboard!
It would have been easy adding these changes to the PCB too _________________ http://soundcloud.com/mister-vommi

true. however, you actually could do these changes off board at the potentiometers. _________________

Not to be honest, because I choosed to use pcb mounted pots. I choose that way to reduce the number of cables running from the board to the panel mounted components for a cleaner build
Anyway I'll put those resistors on the board.
But I planned to mount R3,4,7 and 8 on the jacks and this will make the stripboard less crowded (and less deep). _________________ http://soundcloud.com/mister-vommi

I got my stripboard version working now! I posted pictures on the 2010 build thread. After some troubleshooting due to brutal mistakes, such as forgetting one resistance and putting all trannies backwards (!). Watching fonik's pcb i realized that 2n3906's pinout is the opposite of what i decided it was..
I am not sure about how to calibrate this module.
I don't have a scope so i just followed the procedure told by fonik on page 7:
-with no signal applied and all pots down exept for carrier initial wich is fully up, I turn the trim (T1) until i got 0V at TP1.
The same procedure for the modulator signal.
So in both cases i got 0V at Test Point when the 'initial' pot is fully up and about - 1,2V when that pot is fully down. Is that ok?
There is some bleedthru between channels when i mixed two audio signals.
When i mix two DC signals (i tried with CV out from a sequencer and a sine wave from an lfo), bleedthru (from lfo's sine) is much more evident.
I am not sure if my calibration is ok and just wanted to share my experience..

all is okay, even the bleedthrough. you cannot expect VCA action from this design anyways... _________________

That's right! Anyway this module have its own character and me too i was hit by the demo of kkissinger!
Any suggestion about some interesting patch that modulates two DC signals?

Sounds like a situation where a desoldering pump would come in handy. |

Yep, desolder pump is your friend. Best purchase I've made for DIY (next to a somewhat decent soldering station). Desolder pumps can be a bit of a pain--you've got to keep them cleaned out--but they're WAY better than desoldering braid. Less potentially damaging as well. _________________ Looking for a certain ratio since 1978 |
