Heya all,

been using Firefox to browse EM for a while now (4+ months) and noticed that if I click on MP3s to download anywhere on EM they get opened in the same window as the link was, and get played there... I used to get the normal Save/Open dialog.

Now I haven't changed anything in Firefox and downloads from other sites are okay, ie: I get the Open/Save dialog.
I can imagine this being due to the fact that these links are .php links and not .mp3 links, something which usually gets resolved by outputting MIME-types in the HTTP headers.

I can't say for certain that EM handles these things differently... but I sure think it did... Any thoughts on this?

I don't notice anything different. For me using FireFox the mp3s open a QuickTime plugin in the same window. It has always done this. Perhaps is would be better to open in another window so you can continue easily to browse the forum while listening to the mp3 play.

I'm interested if anyone else has seen any problems.

BTW, you are right, because the PHP file type is used for the download, the MIMETYPE sent by the server tells the browser what type of file it is. Occationally, we have had the MIMETYPE on the server get messed up, but that is very rare.

Yeah,

and seeing that Firefox is able to play the file, the Mime-type seems to be output properly... I checked my default plugins and that is still on Winamp, as it has been forever...

And these white screens without volume control are sorta boring and eardrum shattering at times.

Odd... Wink

Hmm. Something is strange. I just disabled the QT plugin and set winamp as my default player for mp3 files.

When I click on the mp3 link on the forum here, the download window pops up. When the file completes Winamp starts to play it. I don't get a blank page with nothinging in it.

I suggest you try downloading QuickTime because the QuickTime pluging starts playing the file immediately - it doesn't wait for it to download completely.

Quicktime is a pig of a program on windows. When you download it, it automatically install iTunes. Unless you really want this, I suggest immediately remove iTunes. It will leave the QT plugin working with Firefox. If you don't want to use QT, I have a little program I'm writing that will stream the mp3s automatically. I'll try to finish it off and post it soon. If you'd like to beta test it, please send me a PM.
