Hello. New around these parts. |

Hi all. Bill Fox has mentioned this site on a number of emails that he sends out and I finally spent some time looking around.
Like probably everyone else here, I'm a musician - and my favorite pastime is babbling about music so I enjoy forums and lists.
I've been writing and recording since the mid-80's - work with a mix of hardware and software and besides synths also play piano, bass, and trumpet. I'm mostly ambient and minimal techno lately, but have dabbled in just about everything else from pop/rock bands to industrial/ebm to jazz.
You can download full length mp3's from here:
http://www.interstitial.info/discog.html
Note - the "sub.terra" album is the only one that doesn't have full length mp3's... they're only 90 second snippets...
Cheers,
John K-N / Interstitial _________________ Relaxed Machinery - organic .: ambient :. techno

I'm still online at the moment - thanks for asking. Here's four that are kind of favorites of mine - all slightly different styles but all sound like me.
beatless ambient with a short bit of piano: marco polo off of 'portraits'
darker mixed with drums: temporal arc off of 'temporal arc'
somewhat happier ambient techno-ish: refraction off of 'temporal arc'
vir unis grooves with me playing trumpet live: endless coral off 'live at the miramar' _________________ Relaxed Machinery - organic .: ambient :. techno

Mosc - I'm in East Peoria, Illinois. Just next to the "if it'll play in Peoria, it'll play anywhere..." city. _________________ Relaxed Machinery - organic .: ambient :. techno

Thanks everyone for listening to my songs. I really appreciate it.
I don't play live much anymore - literally once a year or less. Last gig was a 3.5 hour improv session on WNUR radio in Chicago with James Johnson and Vir Unis in spring 2003. Pictures here if you'd like:

Before that was the Space For Music Festival in Milwaukee in 2001. I was playing with Vir Unis at that show also. Some odd photos of that here - these are taken from a video tape of the show:

From 85-92 and then in 97-98 I played with pop/rock bands around central Illinois - many, many gigs playing synth or bass.
I still plan to do some more shows now and then. There's just something amazing about playing live - nothing quite like it.

Hi John
I have spent some time checking your "interstitial" site
Your discography looks impressive and from what I can see, you could enjoy this "old" thread Do you remember the eighties? _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Mohoyoho,
Yep - I've been up to Rockford a few times. A friend of mine got married there (we had some fantastic sushi there...) - I've got some photos around somewhere. I'll have to see if they're still posted. Ah - just a couple. One of a "ghost town" sign outside Rockford and another of an octopus at a car wash...

Playing out - I kind of ramble on a bit about that a couple of posts up from this one. A couple of links to photos of my last two gigs (in 2001 and 2003). I have nothing planned right now, but am heading up to Chicago to record an album with a few friends later this spring/summer. Possibly a gig will evolve out of that.
I've gotten to the point where playing out gets harder and harder to do - but if I'm jamming with other people where we can bounce ideas back and forth - then I really love doing it. I miss playing live a lot, but hey, I'm getting a bit older, and my asthma keeps me out of most smoke filled rooms - like bars, etc... which is where most gigs I've had in the past have been.
Very nice website you have - I'll be grabbing the couple of tracks you have up soon. Thanks for listening to my music. |
