Sending program change to Electro from Lead 3 performance |
 |
|
Hi.
Can this be done? To elaborate i am setting up performances to match song names so that i can use the first 3 slots as Lead 3 sounds, and then the 4th slot has a silent lead 3 patch but plays the Electro via MIDI. All this is working ok, but i would like to be able to set the program change as part of the slot selection within the performance?
Any help or confirmation either way would be great. Thanks :) |

Hello there,
Well,if I understand correctly (and please don't hate me if I don't - english is not my mother language ) you want to make preset on your nord lead which sends program change to your electro. For example, you want that performance A2 (I don't know how performance are organized on lead 3,I have lead 2) changes your electro to patch number 45 (or whatever else).
Well,I don't know how this is organized on nord lead 3,but I tried and make same thing on Korg Triton LE some days ago.On Korg, you have something called MSB and LSB as far as I remember , and this defines bank and patch number for midi device you are sending midi to.
So,try and find those parameters,I think that would help.
Best regards |

Thanks for your replies.
Wout Blommers: No im not using split keyboard, i have one of the slots set up as a mute sound, and this is the only one that is sending out the MIDI channel for electro, so in this system when you select any of the other 3 slots you are playing lead, and the 4th the Electro.
Sending the program change to the Electro when selecting the Performance is exactly what i am after but you didnt elaborate on how it is done as I think you had me wrong in what i was trying to achieve. My apologies but are you able to explain how the program change is associated with the Performance change? This would be exactly what i have been trying to figure out. Thanks!
brick_in_the_wall: Your english is fine my friend I have already been trying to find the program control message in the Lead 3, and have failed thus this thread to try and have the more experienced give me a hand.
Thanks again

I'll have to take a look at this set up. On [Manual Page 139] you can read the Performance Change on the Lead is transmitted on the Global Channel. I'm afraid the Electro doesn't have a Global Midi Channel. Unfortunate I'm very busy tomorrow, wednesday, so I can start on thursday at the earliest...

Thanks.
I can see that information on page 139, but where i am stuck is here:
"When you select a performance, a program change message is transmitted..."
The "a" isnt very helpful, i want to send a specific message that is related to the bank select on the Electro, and this doesnt seem to be explained in the manual - thus why i am asking here. Thanks again for your help in this matter. |

What message would it be other then Program/Bank Change?
I think you can do it this way...
Don't use NL3 Performance mode if you don't want to change Slot A to C. Then create a special Bank containing silent Programs and load this bank into Slot D. You are able to name these Programs with the memory locations of the Electro or name of the song with memory location of the Electro. Set Slot D and the Electro to the same Midi Channel. When Slot D is activate and is changed to another Program, the Electro will follow. If you need to make a jump, use the Rotary Dial of the NL3.
BTW the Electro only has 64 memory locations, so you're are only using half the bank.
In this set-up it is impossible to save the value of the Program Change in the Program of the NL3. (It can in the G2, which has a flexible Midi Out set up)

Thanks dude this is so helpful.
Can i just confirm from what you have said:
1 - There is no way to store the value of the program change message within the Lead 3, so it is not possible to have the Electro change to a pre designated program number (for example B4) when a performance is selected.
2 - The program change message sent to the Electro is just a +1/-1 message, and is not related to the program number currently set on the Lead 3, and that this in fact is the only way to influence the program currently selected on an external synth.
3 - The ultimate workaround might be to have all your performances set as the first 64 of the Lead 3 banks (ie from 1:1 to 1:64) and have your Electro programs setup accordingly, including multiple copies of sounds on the Electro that you use on several songs (ie a favourite organ sound might be stored on A2, A6, B5, D7...)
Thanks again this has made me feel less useless in not finding how to achieve this |
