Wave Folders Question... |
 |
|
I've read through the text on the wavefolder page several times and am having trouble figuring out which part of the wave folder is similar to that "middle section" of the Serge waveshaper. Is it the Lockhardt wavefolder / Grinder or the other one or what?
Also, does the PCB with the real ringmod and the wavefolder at www.bridechamber.com have the one that is similar to the Serge Middle Section?
Sorry to be all stereotypical synth nerd but I really want one of those famous Serge-Esque thingies to play with in my modular.
Thanks,
Jonathan |

the other one!
have a look at the schematic
the grinder is at the top and is completely separate from the folder cct.
The grinder is as the name implies
and the Lockart wavefolder is another bonus altogether. I quite like the Lockhart and have built them as output waveshapers on VCOs.
Nothing wrong with wanting Serge-esque thingies in your synth, if anything kudos for your good taste and sophisticated judgement |

Is it supposed to just make a sort of PWM effect? I don't find much use for mine since my VCO's already have PWM. The grinder, however is an absolute marvel for it's parts count(just wish it had voltage control) and the "other one" blows my mind continually _________________ " I went through quite a few trannies til I found one I liked" - Wild Zebra |

Hmmm, I don't think it's all that... maybe it's just that I'm tired of Moog filters . |

Yes the pulse out does but the tri out is something else - from Ken's description (more accurate and succinct than anything I can write about it) -
"The effect it produces is not like unlike that of the Serge middle wave multiplier - harmonically rich waveforms that can be swept for filter-like effects. It MUST be fed a triangle or sine wave to function properly"
I used one of these for the output circuitry of the EN thru-0-VCO, if you have seen the schematic, half of page 2 was just for the output section. at the time I had no CA3080 chips, so it seemed easier just to drop in a Lockhart wavefolder. funnily enough the pulse output is the most interesting and most often used, probably wasted on a thru-0....but if it sounds good - Do it!! |
