They just released this synth and since I like what they did with iSequence I thought I would try it out.

Glad I did!

Really fat sounding synth. Simple interface. Nice preset patches. Arpeggiator. For the Introductory price of $4.99 - not bad at all. I think its a nice alternative/addition to nLog. Here is some info from their site:

"Horizon synth is a virtual analog synthesizer that takes the definition of iOs synthesizer to the next level. Thanks to carefully designed architecture and heavy usage of coprocessor it blurs the boundaries between iOs and hardware synthesizers. Horizon was built to perform and works perfectly with any MIDI keyboard or sequencer. A lot of research has been done in order to achieve unheard warmth and clarity. "

They have a rather long list of features which you can see here:
http://www.beepstreet.com/horizon

Not sure how it will respond to external midi. iSequence doesn't seem to - but I don't think it was designed to. Supposedly Horizon can. I'll find out this evening. Very Happy

Thanks for the link, Dave. Any news on response to external MIDI?

I don't know what all the fuss was about over Horizon. Yes it's a good and pretty powerful sounding 'vanilla' synth, but that was all. It looks like a synth and has all the knobs just like a synth, but isn't really anything really different after NLog (which I personally think has more character).

There are only a few developers who really take advantage of Apple's iOS interface. I really hope the platform doesn't just turn into a testbed for apps to be readied for vst or AU. Rolling Eyes

Hi Howard!

It does respond to external MIDI - but it doesn't appear to transmit it yet. Makes a decent basic sound module for the price.

It's certainly not as refined/sophisticated as NLog is but in it's defence it just came out. I do like the layout - easy on the eyes. One other thing that I do like is the style of patch selection Horizon uses. I'm not thrilled with patch menus where I have to call up individual banks - look through them - and then call up the next one and so on till I find the patch I'm looking for. I like a drop down that I can scroll thru quickly...but that's just my preference. Something that I found a bit disappointing has to do with the Morph groups - basically you can use the mod wheel to morph between two modifications to a patch. It seems that it just switches instead of smoothly morphing. It could be the patches I was experimenting on - I have to dig into that. My old AN!x had that feature and it was really cool.

If I had to pick only one out of Horizon or nLog? nLog without a doubt. But for the price I think Horizon adds another sonic flavor to the tool box.

If only Yamaha would bring out a version of the AN1x for iPad! (I know- it contradicts everything I've just said). The AN1x was to me an extremely good virtual version of the CS80 only let down by a crappy interface Sad

However, for the price, Horizon is a bargain though, and does actually sound very CS80-ish! Smile

Yeah an iAN1X would be cool! I miss that instrument. It didn't have a great user interface though. Plus - I really didn't care for how it was built - felt cheap. Loved the sound.

Just read over at the Beep Street forum that Horizon will be renamed to Sunrizer due to a name conflict with and existing VSTi.

Supposed to be out this week - not sure if that means there will be an actual update or if it's just the name change.

Great app with decent patches, pretty fat too. Ui reminds of the roland jp8000. True it still doesn't respond to some midi implementations.
Cons for me is the way to choose the sound, ain't no good for live performance when changing patches.

Wishlist a Nord G2 modular app. Smile that would be awesome.

A G2 app on a tablet, that would be cool. I wonder if the demo would run on a Windows tablet?

Sunrizer, despite its appalling new name is finally growing on me. Smile

Looking forward to the iPhone version.

I'm not under nda but I better don't fuck this up, because none of the other iOS developers will continue to talk to me & listen to what I have to say Wink
but what I can say is I don't waste my time with toys, I just want good tools
