Soy doesn't count? Plant proteins are extrememly digestable & readily processed by the body.

It's not that simple. Soy contains protein, true, but it's also a bean, and one thing about beans is that they're designed to pass through the digestive system of animals to be distributed throught the ecosystem. Now, so what you might say? Well the way it does this is that soy, and all beans for that matter actually STEAL nutrients from the body, and are very high in something called pseudo-estrogen, yeah, the female hormone. NOT GOOD.

But how come asians eat soy sauce etc??? - Soy sauce is made from fermented, sprouted soy beans, which means they're not only quite a bit older, they're also in the process of growing, which means they don't have the protective (to the bean) qualities, which is a good thing. Think about how much soy is used in asian cooking - they never had soy milk, or used soy as a replacement for meat, and tofu is very very rare in their diet.

http://www.mercola.com/forms/whole_soy_story.htm
READ THAT.

Heh, I have a big thing against soy... I used to love it, until I found out how amazingly BAD it is for you.

Doubledanger, Silent Hill4 has a scene with a guy who's a bit like you. He's guarding a door but having withdrawal symptomes from choclate milk. It's a bit silly scene in a otherwise serious game.

Can anybody still explain to me why bananas are supposed to be so good for you yet seem to have quite a bit of fruit-sugars? Mosc's link on different sugars is very interesting from a test-tube perspective but less so from a stomach one.

I should play silent hill.... Heh.

The reason Fructose is better than other sugars is because of it's low glycemic index, and honestly, at this point, I don't know that much.

Ok, I'll read those and perhaps go bug some of those big banana fans.

SH is freaked out- Realy freaked and dark. The whole series does have a very interesting soundtrack, especially the second part (should be cheap now on the X-box); realy deep dark stuff.

Mosc, I'll read that page but I believe the atkins diet is one that's meant to make you lose weight and I think the general consensus is that I should not lose weight. Gaining, say 20Kg, would be a much better idea.

Yes, Kassen, I can see that. Most people think Atkins is just for weight loss, but it's also good once you are at your goal weight. You can just eat more carbs (hopefully good carbs) at a level were you don't start gaining. Even though I'm at my goal weight, I don't eat sugar (cakes, pies, candy, etc), bread, pizza, bagels, etc.

That's why I eat a lot of Splenda... Now-a-days you can get a lot of great low-carb products, like ice cream and chocolate syrup. Coffee is low carb too...

Eh, when it comes down to it we're all going to die. I just say switch it up a little and try to find things which not only taste good but also make you feel good.

Steak, Salad, glass of wine, then ice cream with chocolate milk. Oh yeah.

Kassen, bananas are rich in potasium. Potasium is hard to find in other foods and helps with the energy cycle of the body. It's added to gatorade and powerade, etc.

DoubleDanger, if you ever get out to Allentown, you must let me take you to Yocco's Hot Dogs. This is a local place. The tradition is to eat chocolate milk with the hot dogs. The dairy they get the chocolate milk from says that Yocco's buys more chocolate milk than any other restaurant customer. Not just a little more, but hundreds of times more. It's not worth planning a trip to Allentown, and when my European buddies came out here for electro-music 2005 I didn't even bother taking them to Yocco's. But for you, it would be like finding your roots. These people here are chocolate milk junkies.

Funny you should mention Dr Mercola, he denounces Splenda(tm) as very bad product as well.

*I* have found changes in myself, for the better, which don't include malnutrition, when I switch to more plant based proteins over animal proteins. I am not a vegetarian or vegan, but this is a simple matter of health and well being. I won't say what I do is best for everyone, since chemistry of the body (despite Tom Cruise) varies with all people and different food effects different people in different ways.

Fact is that our diets are so complicated, that no study has ever taken account of the WHOLE picture, and when compared to engineering, which has science that restricts cases to .001%, studies relating to humans are usually considered "successful" if they can prove as low as 30% rates of certainty. Not very accurate, and when Doctor's start blaming 1 single food for digestive distress, immune-system breakdown, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive disorders and infertility--even cancer and heart disease, it makes their studies and strong opinions (to me) very suspect.

As Kassen stated, Milk is not great for anyone older than a breast fed child: Nearly all people assume some level of allergic reaction to milk (ever notice the extra phlegm you get after a glass?--Divers avoid all dairy products 24hrs or so before diving because it clogs your eustatian (sp?) tube, due to these reactions). To use your caveman allegory, cavemen didn't spend their lives sucking on cow udders. It's not how we evolved.

What an enlightened reply, yes, definately, it depends on your metabolic type.

Not exactily tied to nutrition but quite relevent is this book: http://www.moodcure.com/

It basically talks about how the modern diet is amazingly insufficient in essential amino acids such as L-Tyrosine and GABA etc. Honestly, you take these things and instantly it's easier to smile. It's not a high, by any stretch, it's just like that content feeling when you finish a healthy meal. Anyway, try and take a look at that.

And if you're into alternative medicine ( I'M NOT.) check out this video: http://stefansargent.clients.neteverything.com/media/burton/

I only once had a bad reaction to milk and I was quite tirered at that point but it was as sudden as it was violent.

Didn't get the Tom Cruise joke, BTW.

this is not suprising. gaba metabolizes into ghb in the brain. i'm not saying it's bad, but "not being high" does not necescraly indicate a "defincy".

Tom Cruise was on some morning news show telling the world, and the interviewer quite pointedly, that they knew nothing of the human body, and *there is no such thing as a chemical imbalance*. Period. If you think so, you are misinformed. It's simply not possible. Megalomania at it's finest.

Well I didn't mean being high by making things easier and happier, but more along the lines of "not depressed" It's not like if you take more of the stuff you'll get higher, which is one of the qualifications of a drug (i suppose, IANAD). But yeah, our diet controls more than our weight...

Beans- beans the musical fruit. The more you eat , the more you toot!

Unless of course;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodiesel

So they do have there uses?!?. It was a bit of a coincidence because I have been looking into alternatives to running my car- and came up with the idea of bio-diesel because deisel over here is now 94.9 pence per litre Shocked Also the EM forum has been down all day over here (its the CIA I reckon Very Happy ), and the soy debate was the first thing I stumbled on after checking if anyone had digested the film/ documentary I recommended?

Tom

PS Chocolate soya-milk doesn't do me any harm Very Happy

Chocolate soy milk... DAMN YOU!!!!

*cries* No, no, I'm going to stick with my nesquik and free xbox games. I won a song today! Sweet no?

As far as soy being bad for you, it won't make you shit radioactive green poop, it'll just steal nutrients from you. Ricemilk is a good lactose free alternative.

Biodiesel, very good stuff. I just have an unleaded car so I can't run it.
