the wattage is a max value that the trimmer will survive. it is about the heat they can dissipate without burning
so with 1/2W you are double good _________________

i believe it was in the Jürgen Haible section, i read about fake MN3005 from utsource, which they refunded in the end (i haven't looked it up again in detail now)
let's hope you get that sorted. |

i corrected building docs for the fonitronik PCBs can now be found here:

Got mine today too - thanks Fonik, they look really nice.
I spotted the R2 error, and was about to post, but as usual, you are way ahead of me! _________________ Mike |

These PCBs look awesome! You really don't expect me to spoil these works of art by soldering stuff on them, do you. Do you?? Oh, well...
Luckily, I have other projects to complete, so there's still ample time to admire them.

Use the real component value on the silkscreen and not the 'R' number,no errors and much easier for those that have to built it. |

i get you point. however, there are pro's and con's.
using just the designators instead of real values makes it easier to change the value afterwards (just change the documentation).
in this special case i don't publish redrawn schematics. i am just providing a PCB for Thomas Henry's circuit, and i wanted the people to use his original schematic. using unique labels instead of values help a lot... _________________

Something else,is it correct that the use of those expensive multi-turn trimmers is a waste of money?
(there is still shifts in the waves when you change frequency after trimming?) |

there won't be shift actually, but a pike. with the trimmers you will be able to remove the shift and offset.
anyways, i myself like multiturn trimmers, since they make it so much easier IMHO. and for the scale and HF trim you definately want multiturn.
anybody built this with single turn? (anybody built this at all yet?) _________________

i've built mine, but im getting some odd behaviour. it only oscillates when the coarse pot is turned up real high, and as soon as it is turned back down again afterwards the vco stops oscillating. not sure what i've done wrong here, probably best to sleep on it (the idea not the pcb) and try again tomorrow |

Hi
This is my first post on that forum, hello!
I bought those boards at the muffwiggler forum and built them already.
I did the dual version and both units worked alright from the start.
I got two different x-4046 versions from different suppliers (just in case).
One is a motorola, on the other one I could not read the print.
One motorola could not be tuned right, but the others of the same batch worked. Strange.
The unreadable ones where ok.
Both are tunable over at least 6 octaves, thats more than I will ever need.
The sound of the units is great, I have a planB model 15 and a doepfer a-110 to compare and the x-4046 is my favorit already.
The sync sounds incredible, and the pure osc sound (without any modulation) is not as bland as the PlanB and more precise than the a-110.
Thanks for that great project.
