coloring pad, that thing looks just perfect. I really like how the sound fits the design and I know from experience that stripping a PCB and mounting it like that can be a lot of work.

The actual function of the machine isn't really clear to me though and I can't make it out in the video, do you have a schematic?

Thank you!

I did this on perfboard. It barely fits, and there are about 60 wires coming out of it to the knobs & joysticks & such. No official schematic, but basically, the signal path goes:

Preamp>PLL (with six oscillators that intertwine in the circuitry)>Octave divider>Filter

Basically, it recognizes the audio and turns it into a telephone type synthesized signal, sputters and pulses because of the oscillators and various voltage starves/capacitor values, gets divided to a lower octave to add thickness, and then gets filtered through the photoresistors that are lined up with the three LEDs that are in the light.

I have no idea how to make a PCB (yet) and have little understanding of formal electronics.

This is Polivoks VCF.

Schematic from http://m.bareille.free.fr/modular1/vcf_polivoks/vcf_polivoks.htm but with original russian op-amps (these are golden ones, really!!! and I'm still hold few of them, many went for gold recycling a time ago) and transistor which is not critical but they are very cheap nowadays (10 times as wester replacement) and I have bunch of them from old times. Green capacitors also russian 1uF and very large! Smile It's very easy to build.

Added trimpot for "Frequency" adjust.

The filter sounds really good and dirty when Q knob turned half way and wild when turned on fully.

I didn't decide yet what knobs to use, so it stays as it is for now.

A+ work on the keyboard!

And I second the fine wiring for the compact box.

Great jobs.

How do you go about making the "cradle"? Looks like a frame, made from L-brackets, yes? Where does one find this size L-bracket?

Beautiful job, very well don.

Indeed, it is a wonderful job.

The aluminum L brackets are pretty standard -- I purchase them at Lowe's.

For the PCBs, he is using nylon spacers and attached them with wire ties. The panel is really neat and the whole project is very compact, indeed!

Thank you for all of the compliments. If anything this project has only motivated me to build more.
Yes, I just used two pieces of aluminum angle I picked up from Lowe's, drilled at the spacing of the PCB's holes and secured them with zip ties, save for the distro board which has tapped holes to allow me to adjust its height. Without the PCBs attached, the "cradle" rails are not mechanical attached to each other save through the standoffs screwed to the panel. I have seen frames or cradles where the two ends are attached via cross-members, but everything felt secure enough without being overly rigid done this way.

Just finished my rack-mount version of the deMIDulator, 8 bit digital synth and lo-fi sampler. You can read about it here:
http://derekenos.com/dIndex.html

I hardwired the audio line in to a 1/4" mono jack on the front panel. Right now, I have a mellotron string sample in the sample waveform location. I probably won't change samples too often.

I believe I heard this filter before online and spent a lot of time looking for it... if i remember correctly it sounds amazing. I wanted to build a pedal with this filter but I am not well versed in schematics and obscure Soviet parts despite what my work looks or sound like: more of a breadboard person. How much do I have to bribe you to talk to me about this filter and how to make it with my limited knowledge, or talk you into producing a few of these? PM me or email me... sound samples soon? I think this is what I've been looking for.

Hello
I do not understand the question. The keyboard was of a Korg Polysix, did not work. That was your question?

Regards

Marco.

I think he was referring to the touch keyboard in the Buchla-esque case, interested in this myself too!

Nice work on your controller as well, Marco.
