Vintaj Polysynth

Here's my first shot at "analogue style" sounds on the G2.

It's a very simple analogue style polysynth based on my new oscillator warmth circuit, which can be found in the building blocks section here:

I made it a very simple voice architecture on purpose -only one oscillator envelope, only one LFO- somewhat inspired by the Roland Juno synths or the Korg Polysix. I've always been fond of those for their sheer simplicity and good sound. I also used the ClassicFilter, which -in conjunction with the warmth-processed oscillators- sounds great to my ears.

I also threw in adjustable oscillator and filter frequency drift, to further enhance that "classic" sound.

Exclamation

There's a nice stereo delay FX with continuous allpass/lowpass dispersion/filtering, modulation and ping-pong functionality (can serve as a chorus too). However, I decided to mute it in all the variations, in order to show the raw sound. It's all set up though, just unmute the Delay Amout level knob and there it is.

Thank you Tim! this is great, the low end sounds much better this way.

I remember that Rob posted a "warmth" trick to put inside patches, not just as an FX. I have modified your patch and put Rob's method to be compared side by side, along the original sound.

By the way, the delay also sounds amazing!

just got done playing around with this finally.

wow. i really needed this right about now. lately i've been thinking a lot about my old SH-101 or Junos and how i'd love to have one of them again. this patch just about killed any idea of that!

definitely the most 'analog' sounding/feeling patch that i've *ever* experienced on the G2. i'm anxious to record some examples and show these sounds to other forums, with due credit for the patch of course. Smile

I was in the same situation -missing the old Junos we had back in the days. This does it for me too. Actually, I use a slimmed-down version of the osc-warmth circuit in all my VA patches these days. I've got so used to it that the unprocessed oscillators sound like a joke to my ears.

I just played abroad last weekend, subbing in an internationally budding funk band. The patch pulled off those 70ies "Herbie Hancock Headhunters"-type analog synth sounds very well. The band was amazed and impressed that this ugly red thing ( Laughing

) could sound so appropriate.

Replacing the hi-fi sounding delay FX with a deliberately crummy-sounding analog delay circuit will enhance the "vintaj experience" Laughing

even more. Or I might check out how to model a spring reverb when I have time.
