BTW
I have been considering getting a Canon 10D. These are dirt cheap these days and it seems that conversion for infrared photography is pretty easy.. sort of... Shocked

OMG that thingy I got was a lot easier to dis/re-assemble, but the Canon looks like it has a good sensor (mine is something like 4 by 6 mm having just 480 * 640 px).

go for it Very Happy

Yup! I think I will.. soon.. The 10D is a good camera and I guess a few 10D bodies would be just great to add to the gear closet.

Anyways.. bad santa... he didn´t bring any of this stuff:

Jan -- is your camera a webcam, or a digital camera? If it's a webcam, are you (also) thinking of making a multi-touch surface?

The camera can be operated from the computer. Never tried it as a webcam (as in movie recording or beaming), but I did make some still sequences with it (like take a picture every minute, or second to see the clouds move fast) controlled by the computer. As of yet I've got no real plan for a synth interface, but Rob told me that the Reactable works with an IR camera and that the software for it is obtainable for free - so it's something I have in my head and I might have a look into it later, maybe it could be something nice for the European Modular Event 2007 Very Happy

edit : just did some experiments, the IR camera can't make much of the image shown on an LCD screen, yet it gives a pretty clear picture of a hand held in front of it even under poor lighting conditions, so it might be a very usable tool to detect and track objects in front of an LCD screen.

That's very similar to the interface I had in mind. This DIY version uses a plate of Plexiglas, with IR LEDs all around the outside edge. When you touch the Plexiglas, your finger contact changes the critical angle at which the light reflects, and instead refracts it, allowing an IR camera mounted below to "see" your finger touches. Add a diffuse layer on the bottom of the Plexiglas (which is transparent to IR but diffuse to visible light), and a projector point up from the bottom as well, and you get a surface that looks like a monitor, but can track multiple touches.

The only drawback is it is limited to 1/50 - 1/60 of a second resolution (scan rate of camera). Not very good for drumming or playing notes, but still good enough for control. I guess better cameras could be used (1/100 - 1/200 sec).

It snowed last night for the first time this winter. I was standing inside looking out in the back yard looking at a rabbit when all of a sudden a hawk came down and grabbed it with his talents. The hawk held the rabbit down in the snow for long enough for me to run upstairs and grab my camera. I took a few snaps through the window. I didn't want to open it else the hawk might get spooked and fly away. Eventually, he did just that - with his dinner.

This is kinda scary because our dog, Zuzu, isn't too much bigger than a rabbit.

howard, i always check the sky when walking into an open field with gwennie!

ramona has a friend who used to have a fat dachshund named hector. her friends brother used to like to take hector for a "walk" after dinner, in the woods, while having a nice smoke.

one night, all of a sudden he sees hector rising off the ground several feet before dropping to the ground....an owl had tried to take him. at first, it wasn't clear if it had really happend, or if it was the smoke...but the tallon holes in hector told the story.

...hector did live to be a ripe old age.
so it is something to be aware of.

deknow

[edited to fix the name of the dog...it was hector, and not chet as i had originally written]

It snowed heavily here about a week ago (unfortunately, although the snow was fairly deep- by British standards anyway, its gone now ).

Piano music always seems to work well with snow- especially Debussy ('the snow is dancing'?). Snow makes Birmingham look clean (it's a dirty cruddy dump believe me (apart from the posh parts) Evil or Very Mad ). Fresh falling snow, reminds me of Vancouver Crying or Very sad

Juli has been checking our bird handbooks. She thinks that wasn't a hawk but a juvenile Golden Eagle. It acted like a juvenile bird - it didn't make a quick kill, just held on to the rabbit until is stopped moving.

We have owls here too.

This is a relatively interesting suburban neighborhood. Beats Florida. We used to live on a lake. The local wild life included water moccasins that were as big around as my arm. Those always gave me the willies. They are pretty aggressive too. pale

Even we had a bit of snow over here. Last week it was pretty much spring like with prunis starting to blossom. Tomorriw my neighbours will wake me way early with scratching sounds on their cars I guess - which happened only a few time this "winter".

The duck in action is a nice one.

Nice pics, Elektro80. I used to have a Volvo 122S (1968) myself. It was tan or light brown. It never got quite as bad off as that one, but pretty close.

Gorgeous photos Stein, except the second. The white cable at the rear of the car disturbs the clean dynamics of the diagonals.

I know, but a white cable disturbing the peace is acceptable when shooting red swedish stuff. Laughing Just look at all those studio pics posted all over this board. Laughing
