i have a simpler (3chip) design on my other machine, which I'll try to dig out... but Jim Patchell has a cadillac here:
http://www.oldcrows.net/~patchell/synthmodulesII/200-1021.pdf

Ken Stones Digital Noise is also based on CMOS, and you could sub a cmos gate oscillator for the PLL he uses...

and after a bit of Googling, here's an earlier variant that includes a filter to derive pink noise as well...

These look like ways to make analog noise. In a Lunetta, you really don't need noise sources. Just run a few OSCs into a gate modulator and you'll have plenty of nice noise. Laughing

by gate oscillators do you mean an xor? could you explain? the only digital way i know of is with a shift register

thanks

Whatever gate you use with two audio rate signals gives you a lot of noise - that is a very broad bandwidth signal. Run two sigs like that through another gates and it will be very noisy.

But this isn't synthesis like additive or subtractive. This is something rather unique. You would never us a Lunetta to try to make some "sound". You use it to discover sounds that it can do.

ok i am excited to try this

dont worry, i am not after "realistic" sounds. i want the weird stuff Wink

so its as as simple as taking a 4001 and putting a different audio signal into each side of the gATE? wow

this is why a tutorial on all the little tricks would be great

thanks

A nice way for getting noisy results out of CMOS like the 40106 is a simple power supply starve pot

Ahhh.... That's a very interesting tip. I never tried that on my Lunetta, but I've had some experience with that on the Cracklebox.

Thanks...

You're from Sacramento. Do you know Stan? (probably)

Nope, I'd not heard the name until I happened upon this sub-forum, I'd love to meet him or see him perform one of his instruments!

"analog" white noise actually works quite beautifully when plugged into a counter it works best when you find an interesting method of resetting the counter though some nice clicks and pulses can be found and used as audio or sent to logic as random gates

on the modular at my school some of my favorite sounds come from patching the noise into the logic modules

i second this technique! if you have multiple functions running off one chip and you "starve" it you can often get a simple circuit to that plays itself for awhile
