Should we split this topic to one titled Bees? It's not about Aspartame anymore. Maybe someone would want to read about bees, wasps and yellow jackets.

on the raver thing:

i was quite a bit older than most of the poeple that were at raves around here. i had a great time, and after moving to nyc, started producing and performing "techno" at events (including a liquid sky party inside the brooklyn bridge). i generally played with others, and i gained most of my knowledge from being on the outskirts of some of the ny based cologne crowd. i had a few things released, and eventually thought i'd make my fortune (haha) with a project i did with frank heiss ("tube") called "bionic harmonic"...we recorded and put out ourselves (well, myself) a double cd called "i'd love to turn you on"...which really is quite a nice listen (imho). of course i still have hundreds of copies in the basement, and i lost about as much as i couldn't afford to loose Rolling Eyes

by the time someone else offered to put it out, i had already decided to do so...this was probably my biggest mistake, i should have been willing to change the plan at that point (and i'd probably have saved a few thousand dollars, and might have even made something or gotten more attention). i (like i think many others) was very disenchanted by the rave scene here...too many drugs by kids that were too young to be meth addicts Crying or Very sad

...i saw potential for activism and enlightenment, but it could not be so when all was based on being a drug supermarket. i became incredibly unpopular in some circles for my view that drugs should never be sold at events (if everyone only had a personal ammount on them, it would stop being a focus for the dea....anyone who had a real drug problem and got their dose before the party would probably not make it there, and it would not attract that are only interested in dealing). there were many good people involved, and i made some very good friends...but the sketch factor always was a problem.

these days, i'm more into playing ambient music (i find programming drums to be more tedious than "playing"). i do have a downtempo project called "the jambient project" (www.thejambientproject.com) with a friend who does beats and an awsome guitar player...there is an hour set download on the site which is fun (the second link appears to be broken, i'll have to fix that eventually). i also have been playing (for many years) with the lothars, which started out as a theremin ensemble (we had 4 at one point...now down to 2) www.wobblymusic.com/lothars which has released a couple of things i'm very fond of (oscillate my metalic sonatas and connected), both of which i recorded, engineered, and mixed. connected was reviewd in playboy Twisted Evil

, but it didn't help sell any cd's Crying or Very sad

i met ramona in the lothars, and we have been living together for over 6 years now.

these days i work (with all my projects) with doctor t (of midi software fame) as much as possible. he does amazing video improv that is truely interactive with the music, and he also is a great musician (he writes video plug ins for a living these days, and really concentrates on that...but in the past he has been a very heavy nm1 user).

yes, emile is quite a guy. i mentioned in the "concerts and festivals" that he, ramona, and myself are going to do a once a month series at a gallery for at least 6 months here in boston (which i am really excited about). he and i are doing a show in nyc on aug 17th. it is in many ways humbling to have a wonderful working relationship with him (as well as friendship).

yes, i think it's still ahead of today. it is possible to run most of that stuff on the atari emulators....i wish i had the inclination to do so, but the nord is plenty for me to chew on these days.

his video work is amazing (and unlike almost all other vj's i've worked with, he uses all his own source material _and_ improvises).

Howard this has been so far (dead thread?) a very interesting topic. i want to reply that i never said David Icke was the first and last word on aspartame or any other subject. also i never told anyone to go out and overthrow the goverment. that statement was by someone else. now time will tell if aspartame causes serious health issues." Urban Legend "looking into that site i find links to a few softdrink manufactures. now i am no expert and i am no detective but does anybody think 7 up would sponsor a web site and have a link added if urban legend came out and said aspartame is poison. does truth have a time limit. aspartame could someday turn out like the tabacco fiasco. sure the urban legend had been around for years and years that smoking caused cancer ect. why hell even my grandfathers both said they heard that years before the "truth" came out. both died lung cancer. way back in the mid 70's. yes i am that old... and all this before the ultra hip advert on MTV(god i hate 2 plug those guys). sure threads/people/email/ect..websites all claim to have the" truth" ect.just look at the links/ sponsers ect. that will always tell you what is really going on. this is what i always thought forums to be all about getting people 2 talk/think/feel about issues music or what ever.... This is the 1 and only forum i can say that i have really wanted 2 be posted on......all i can say is that i am looking into all sides ov thee issue......there is a lot of info on the internet/talk radio....ON THE SUBJECT OV BEES I LIVE IN THE SOUTHWEST AND I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH THEM. I HAVE SEEN SWARMS ON THE HIGHWAY(BULLHEAD,ARIZONA to KINGMAN,ARIZONA) THICK/BLACK and VERY AGGRO...ON THE JOB I SAW A CO-WORKER STUNG MANY TIMES ON HIS HEAD AND FACE....a lot ov the locals are used to it...i lived most ov my life in hollywood/LA and only saw on tv...That said....i think all ov us safe.....from bees that is.....

On my recent trip to Victoria, BC, I picked up a copy of the current Discovery Magazine. They have a story on the chemistry of sweetners. http://www.discover.com/issues/aug-05/departments/chemistry-of-artificial-sweeteners/
Forgive the link being something you must subscribe to. I include it for completeness, not a recommendation.

Anyhow, they say the evidence is that all of the approved sweetners are very safe. One interesting fact given is that the formaldahide in aspartame is about 1/1000th of what is in a fresh orange.

On my try through airports in many cities and during my stay in Victoria, I sampled all of these sweeteners. Splenda is the hands on taste winnen, IMHO.

Apparently, all of these sweetner chemicals were discovered by accident. In one case, a lab worker was told to test a bunch of chemicals by his supervisor. He minunderstoond and thought he said "taste". Voila, aspratame. Lucky there wasn't also a dead lab worker too.

Aspartaimine is crap, you guys have heard of Splenda right? i don't know how much better that is for you, but it's meant to be good, better than Aspartamine at least.

Honestly though, it's not fake sugar that's the problem, it's sugar itself.

What's so problematic about sugar? I thought you needed sugars because it's the only thing your brain works well on. Your brain and senses burn lots and lots of Joules.

No fuel for the brain means no modular synth patches which means (as Mosc and me proved beyond any doubt) that God will get very angry with you and will delete the world.

I don't like the current wave of inovation in soda. It all advertises "less sugar" which means more sweeteners which means more terribly bitter aftertaste.

I'm diabetic and my life is much better if I don't eat sugar, or very many carbs. You need glucose in your blood, but if you get more than a certain amount, then your insulin system kicks in triggering the body to convert the excess glucose into fat. For me, getting the insolin system going only does bad things (because mine is very inefficient because of over use). So sugar is virtually a poison. If you are not a diabetic, but you eat a ton of sugar and carbs, and your are genetically prone to diabetes, then you'll most probably end up being diabetic.

Does anybody know anything about white stevia (not sure of spelling)? I'm told by a diabetic friend of mine that it much better than any of the big sugar substitutes. And its "natural" which means it won't hurt you. HA! Exclamation

Some of the worst poisons are "natural" like digitalis, which when taken in tiny doses can help the heart Laughing

. Or hemlock, which also is a killer. At least poisonous hemlock grows as a wild weed and is not sometimes found in gardens as a flowering plant. I also believe it is the roots that contain the poison.

Beware, just because it is natural
