You could, but there's the guitar's impedance, you need a DI and preamp or maybe just an appropriate preamp to get into the G2.
Then, the output. If it's going to an amp, the signal would need conversion to perfectly match the signal for a good tube amplifier.
|
OT: I ocassionally use my G2 as guitar processor, by using a separate preamp before the G2, and by using a H&K tubefactor pedal between the G2 out and guitar amp in (with low gain and no audible distortion). It appears to have good buffering I-don't-know-what, this works nicely. _________________ Spinning at ~0.0000115740740741 Hz |

Yes, building the pre/buffering in would be trivial AFAIK.
One thing; Buffering-out to a non-master-volume tube amp would affect the response, so maybe a pickup load-sim (xformer) would be cool.
OK, I'll stop hijacking the thread now... sorry. _________________ Grant |

Hijacking threads on electro-music.com isn't a serious offense.
I've used the G2 as a processor for electric guitar and Theremin. If you take your time and program variations, it can be quite fantastic.
I can spend weeks programming a G2 performance for use in live performance and still I'm never finished. _________________ --Howard

So they have actually updated, amended, fixed etc the operating system? If so, do we know what they have done to it yet? any clues?
I thought it was just a software udpate for vista drivers etc...

I've tried running my guitar through my G2X as well and really like the various sounds (the Moogerfooger MURF emulation and Tim's elastic audio stuff comes to mind, as well as several excellent delay patches).
The G2X is still on semi-permanent loan to my bandmate though. Thinking of getting a G2 Engine but apparently the user has to do a lot of work to get the G2 patch names to show up on whatever MIDI controller keyboard is chosen. That wouldn't totally stop me but... I'm still setting up my Roland VG-99, which is keeping me busy enough on the guitar technology front. _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud

According to Clavia, it's "just" a compatibility update. Quotes theirs.

I wish I could know more about this...I guess it's not so cool to discuss it in open forum, but if anyone wanted to send me a private email to relieve my loneliness... |

Could be, but I've heard no one say so. What I did hear was that it was not so easy for Clavia to find enough beta testers. _________________ Jan

So I'll find out soon (I guess they have gone home already today). The prices of the G2 engine on EBay are very low (maybe because of our terible economy? I don't know) while the prices of the G1 are still pretty good...so maybe I will sell my G1 key and buy a midi keyboard or something...I can't afford a g2 key unfortunately |

Having read Blue Hell's post, I contacted Clavia if any additional help was needed in testing, but it was no longer necessary. So whether or not Clavia had difficulty finding testers, they did succeed in finding them by now. FYI. _________________ Spinning at ~0.0000115740740741 Hz |

at least they support the system on the basic compatibility issue..wich is good because it at least keeps the status quo...
regarding guitar processing.. i lately played direct into the g2 an builded a patch around it..recorded on a valve tape machine..and..the result sounded suprisingly good... seems that clavia had the mean rocknroller in mind |

If you consider $899 US to be "very low". |
it would be 575 Euro. I sold my engine for 600 _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

I have been seeing it for about $750 in the last few days. It's a good idea sometimes (if you are looking) to check the 'completed auctions' box on the left of the eBay screen and see what the last few models sold for. I figure $7-800 is quite a fair price.
But, looks like I have some new freelance job in the last few days...I'll see next month how it is working out, as I would really love to get the G2 key if possible. It is an endless mystery to me why they did not put some kind of simple control on the engine...but never mind.
I did some testing of the beta editor, but since I don't have G2 and am just ting the interface under XP (where it worked fine already) I am not seeing any real differences...but of course the good part is this means no dangerous new bugs |

Consider what they used to cost new- more than $1000, unexpanded _________________ Free Tibet. Release the Panchen Lama from prison. Let the Dalai Lama return to his home. |

"Very low" price for a G2 Engine to me means $600 or less. $750 is not much of a discounted price, considering Nova Musik sells them for $799 new.
None of the G2 Engines that sold for under $750 were expanded, so I don't understand cappy's point about the expansion board.
$750 would be low to an Italian such as our friend Carlo. I knew an Italian guy that flew to the US to buy bass guitars - he said it was cheaper to pay for a plane ticket and come to the US to buy gear than it was to buy the same gear in Europe.
On the other hand, $750 is not cheap at all to our Chilean friend, jjj. _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud
